In order to help you make an informed and accurate decision for your business, I wrote this unbiased Doba review. I am going to share everything that I know about Doba – both good and bad.
I signed up for Doba in 2012 and used their drop shipping service until 2015. I shifted my focus on other projects so I did not have time for a drop shipping business any longer. Of course, the service has changed over the past year but their business model remains the same.
Based out of Lehi, UT, Doba is a drop shipping service and a middleman to thousands of suppliers. Their catalog has grown to two million products and many different categories. In August and September of 2016, the company brought some positive changes to the service that I will go over later in this review.
What is drop shipping and how does it work?
Drop shipping is a retail fulfillment model that does not require you to purchase inventory upfront. This process reduces the overall risk by enabling you to collect orders prior to ever having to purchase actual inventory.
You, as the seller, never have possession of the products that you sell with the drop shipping model. The supplier that you purchase your products from takes care of the packaging and shipping.
Drop shipping is not for everyone, but it is ideal for beginners that are trying to expose themselves to selling products online.
Eventually, you will want to purchase your products in bulk and take care of the shipping. This will enable you to collect higher profit margins.
Doba review – Is Doba a scam?
You will be able to find many different Doba reviews on the internet that either praise the service or believe that it is a scam.
Neither perception is accurate.
I have used the service, so I know it is not a scam. However, it is nearly impossible to make a profit through drop shipping. Drop shipping is an overly saturated business model that is becoming extinct.
Thousands of eBay and Amazon sellers once used Doba as their only source for making money. However, that is no longer the case.
Do not interpret what I said above incorrectly.
Doba is not a scam but drop shipping is no longer my option of selling online (see my alternatives to drop shipping near the end of this review).
Here is what current customers had to say about Doba:
How does Doba work?
It is important to understand what Doba really is and how it works prior to deciding whether or not you want to try it.
Doba is a drop shipping service that enables you to drop ship products directly to your customers. A major pro of using drop shipping is the reduced overhead expenses.
Once you log into your Doba account, you will be able to search for all types of products that are all available for drop shipping. Each individual product page will include all of the relevant information regarding each product. The page will also include shipping estimates and any other additional fees that you may incur.
Can I make a profit?
Unless you plan on doing this is a hobby, you are starting a business to create a steady income flow for you and your family.
There are many factors that are going to contribute to the amount of profits you will be able to rack in. Things like competition, popularity, pricing, niche, etc.
However, as I said earlier, it is very difficult to make money through drop shipping.
Yes, Doba has well over two million products, but 85% of those products are overpriced – especially when you factor in the drop shipping fees.
Unless you live somewhere in outer space and your customers do not have access to Amazon and eBay, you will not be able to create a substantial markup on any of your products. Heck, you will not even come close to breaking even, which is the sad part.
You will be able to make a profit on the other 15% of products in their database. But if you plan on selling on eBay or Amazon, you will not have much of a profit when you factor in their selling fees. An online store would be ideal as you do not have to pay commission fees.
Please do not interpret what I said about Doba incorrectly.
I think that Doba is not a scam but drop shipping is no longer a feasible option to make money. If you do your research and take advantage of all the tools at your disposal, you will be able to find the right products to sell.
Here are some sample products that you will be able to find in the catalog:
I recommend using Google AdWords to conduct your research. It is a free tool that you can use to receive key insights on competition and other statistics.

Support and resources
Their customer support department is available via phone and email during their normal business hours – 5:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. EDT on weekdays. They can be reached via phone by calling 1.800.322.7952.
Other helpful resources include a market research lab, seller training center, community forum, and an ecommerce blog dedicated to helping you sell online.
Here is my take on all of this.
I do not want to be the elephant in the room, but when exactly are you going to need assistance from a service like this? You will never need it, trust me.
Despite what you may have heard or how much you pay for a service, nobody is going to tell you what products to sell.
They will give you information on how to use their service and find products, but they will not tell you what products you can sell to make a profit.
It just does not work like that.
Overall, their support team is responsive and knows their service very well.
How much does it cost?
Doba offers 4 different monthly plans, starting at $29 per month.
Here is a quick breakdown of the available plans:
- Basic plan costs $29/month or $290/year. This plan charges $0.99 for every order that you place.
- Advanced plan costs $69/month or $690/year. This plan also charges $0.99 for every order you place. You will be able to export data and use the live chat option with this plan.
- Pro plan costs $249/month or $2,490/year. This plan does not charge any additional fees for your first 500 orders each month. You will be able to export data and use the batch order upload option.
- Enterprise plan is a custom plan that is suited around your business.
Doba offers a 14-day free trial without having to input your credit card information.
How do I cancel my Doba membership?
If you are not happy with the service or feel that you are no longer able to make money, you can cancel your membership by logging into your account or by calling DOBA’s Member Services Department at 1.877.321.3622.
To cancel your account online, log into your Doba account and go to “My Account” and then click on “Cancel Membership” that is located under the “Membership and Billing” tab. Follow the instructions to complete the cancellation process.
Here is what I learned during the cancellation process (they did not have the option to cancel the service online when I was a member).
Their cancellation department is trained to try and trick you to remain a customer. They will try to offer you special discounts and other free perks so you stay. So if you are not good at saying declining those offers, I would suggest canceling online.
How to get the best results from Doba?
If you are new to drop shipping, I would recommend reading all of the guides that they offer.
Stay away from selling on eBay and Amazon as other sellers will beat your prices.
Drop shipping is challenging and nearly impossible to make money.
My advice is to find the 15% of products that you can actually sell to make money on Doba. Do it for a little while until you find an alternative to drop shipping.
Best alternative to Doba
If you want an alternative to Doba and drop shipping, this is the best service to use:
Worldwide Brands is a wholesale directory that connects you to thousands of wholesale suppliers, liquidators, and drop shippers without the middleman (read my Worldwide Brands review). It is the only wholesale directory that is certified by eBay.
A lifetime membership costs a one-time fee of $269. The membership never expires and you will have access to the service forever.

Doba review – Is it worth the investment?
Finding products to sell online is a difficult process and importing products from China is risky.
A dedicated individual with a lot of time on their hands can find suppliers on their own. If you have time to find suppliers on your own, it might not want ideal for you to invest in a service like Doba.
On the other hand, Doba is ideal for those that do not like taking risks and want to save time. The good thing about Doba is that all of the products are viewable from one central location and can easily be added to your online store via various integrations.
I do not think that Doba is worth the investment but it is a good place to start until you gain the experience or find an alternative to drop shipping.
- Their database features over two million products in categories like electronics, apparel, automotive, health, etc.
- Doba offers a custom product export feed for uploading products to eBay, Amazon and other marketplace platforms. In addition, this custom feed is able to integrate with a lot of the best ecommerce software providers out there.
- You receive notifications for products with low inventory levels. Most of the suppliers keep their inventory levels up-to-date, so you do not have to worry about overselling and having to cancel orders.
- Doba has been accredited with the Better Business Bureau for over 11 years. As of right now, the company has managed to keep an A+ rating with the BBB. It’s also fair to note that Doba has 185 closed complaints in the past 3 years. These complaints pertained mostly to issues with advertising, billing, and problems with the service itself.
- There are no order minimums. Order as much or as little as you want.
- The free trial no longer requires a credit card.
- Doba is not cheap and you might have to sell a few products just to break even with the cost of the membership.
- Doba has many negative reviews floating around the internet.
- The drop shipping model is no longer a feasible option for selling online.
